Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in India
The zoo is the oldest zoo in the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo. It is located in the heart of the city of Thiruvananthapuram. Similarly, the museum and the Botanical Garden are the oldest in the country. Swathi Thirunal Maharaja (1816-1846), the famous musician and musicologist who ruled in Travancore during 1830-1846, was behind the establishment of the Zoological Museum, Trivandrum. He had a collection of huge beasts, including elephants, at the breeding ground of horses. Beyond the remnants of the Trivandrum, he was a merchant, tigers, leopards, deer, bear and a lioness. His brother Uthar Thirunal Marthanda Varma and the British Resident General Dulun was responsible for the establishment of a museum and zoo in Thiruvananthapuram. In 1855, the Vice-President of Travancore Maharaja Patron, General Kullan President, Ilaya Raja and Alan Broun Committee Committee Secretary and Director of the Museum were formed. In September 1857 the museum was opened to the public. However, the museum itself was not very attractive. So the Zoo and the Park were started in 1859.
The zoological garden is stunning in India with its amazing landscape and tropical growth of plants. The high wooden trees, the emerging sprouts, the gorgeous green landscape, the Royal view is one of the most beautiful zoos in south east Asia. Located in the heart of the city, spread across an area of 36 acres, it offers tourism and entertainment to the visitors of Kerala and abroad.
